“Floridians who lost their homes to foreclosure between January 2008 and December 2011 could recoup some of their money as part of the national foreclosure fraud settlement.
About 167,000 Floridians got applications but they need to file them in about a month.
“The deadline is Jan. 18th and we realize a lot of people wait to the last possible minute to submit these forms and we also realize it’s the holiday season,” said John Lucas of the Florida Attorney General’s Office. “We don’t want them to put these forms to the side and forget about them and miss that deadline for filing for relief.”
The money comes from a $25 billion settlement with five of the nation’s largest banks. About $170 million of the $8 billion granted to Florida is set aside for cash payments to former homeowners in the state.”
